Rogue Trader

Ambitious, wide-boy Nick Leeson is determined to rise in the world and be more than a simple bank clerk. When his employers, Barings Bank, offer him the opportunity to go to Jakarta to sort out a problem that nobody else wants, he seizes the opportunity with both hands. In Jakarta he meets and marries Lisa and together they go to Singapore when the bank offers him the job of setting up their future options trading operation. To save money the bank allows Nick to operate both the floor trading and the back office facilities and force him to employ cheap, unskilled staff. His first year of trading is a big success and he makes large profits for the bank even though he has illegally broken trading rules and secretly covered up losses. Given more freedom, even more money and continuing unchecked, Nick starts to make losses and again attempts to trade out of them but this time he comes unstuck as his illegal trading generates even bigger losses. After the death of his unborn child Nick completely loses control and gambles without restraint with other people's money leading inevitably to a complete financial meltdown and the bankruptcy of the bank.

Great Movie On Fraud
There's only a handful of financial movies, let alone financial fraud movies, so while most people have never seen this, they definitely...

Reminds me of the old days
This reminds me of the old pit trading days. At times hilarious, but a scary look into how quick things can go south. My late trading partner had 1 day that nearly wiped him out back in the 80's.

Ehh, better movies out there
This movie is slow and dull. The fact that you know how it ends makes it even worse: it seems like they're trying to build up the tension and let you think that maybe Nick'll see the error of his ways. But then you remember what really happened. The soundtrack made the movie even worse, if that's possible. Nothing exciting ever happens. I can't see any reason why anyone would ever want to watch this movie.

Great Movie
This was a good trader movie. Based on true events. The movie makes it seem like it was one person's fault which in reality everyone knew what was going on.

Good stuff
Gotta love seeing the big high and mighty bank get taken to the wood chipper. There are probably many other shady things in the market that go on every single day. ACCT: 88888 aka big business off shore bank accounts

This is an okay movie
True story adaption of the howe one man brought down Bearings Bank. How was one man able to to bring down one of th eoldest merchant banks in the world?

Good for traders
To fully appreciate this movie you have to be a trader, a trader who has experienced losses. Many of the emotions that Nick goes through are similar to the emotions that most people experience when they begin to trade. While Nick's trading style is different than most people's (price arbitrage and huge amounts of equity), the emotions are still there, fear and greed.

Nice movie ..True story of Nick Leeson.
The was nice but McGregor' acting was superb.Since it was based on true story of Nick Leeson which amazed the hell outta how can u trust someone so much specially in trading. It's like a Ponzi Scheme thing lol u get your name out there then rip ppl off and then get caught. How become paranoid as hell when they under that much pressure I can't imagine living life like that.Overall a good lesson to learn!! Don't trust anyone !!

One man can truly create or destroy absolutely anything.

Ewan McGregor as Nick Leeson certainly did not take THE LONG WAY ROUND is his pursuit of grandeur.

McGregor kills it!
Obi-Wan Kenobi knows how to stay cool during intense pressure. This crazy story of Nick Leeson is over the top but true which is what makes it great. This goes back to people and greed. You are already down and should be on your way out, but no you are going back for a bigger piece this time and you've already lost more than you can take on. Sad but this is how it works a lot of times. Good movie to watch!

Amazing story
Classic example of if things look too good to be true, they usually are! Amazing story of how one man destroyed a bank. A must see film.
