A Pleasant Surprise
I wasn't expecting much when I started watching this movie, but it turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. It's a fine romantic comedy worth watching.
Margaret Sullivan and Jimmy Stewart are outstanding together as coworkers who dont like each other but end up as unknowing pen pals. The scene where they finally realize what's going on is very, very good. What's interesting is the fact that when this movie was made, Jimmy Stewart had an intense crush on Sullivan -- some have claimed he was in love with her--and you can see his affection for her in a number of the scenes.
There's nothing special about this movie other than the fact that it's a good story with very good characters. I recorded it because I've always like Jimmy Stewart and had never seen it. I thought for sure I'd give up on it, but the movie pulled me in and I really enjoyed it.
Guys, here's some free advice from someone who's been married for 24 years. Swallow your ego for a couple of hours and skip the Vin Diesel action flick. Instead, make some popcorn for your wife or girlfriend and watch this movie with her. She will enjoy it, and more importantly, she'll appreciate you taking the time to create a very nice stay-at-home date night for her.
