A Good tool - but use with caution
I used Smartrend at the depths of the financial crisis - at a time where it wasn't that hard to choose a stock that would rebound (like Ford). I've been keeping tabs on certain stocks and on Smartrend ever since, although I had no money invested. My opinion: both the positive and negative reviews are accurate.
Although I cannot speak to the subscription errors mentioned below (I have my own internal processes which avoids such hassles in the first place), I have to agree that Smartrend isn't exactly on target every time with every stock. Sometimes the stock will fall before Smartrend calls a downtrend. In fact - MOST of the time the stock will either rise or fall before Smartrend calls it, so if you're looking for Smartrend to tell you when the stock has peaked - you will be sorely disappointed.
However, if you're willing to concede that nobody can predict the market, and able to use other stock picking techniques, then Smartrend can be quite valuable. When I last used Smartrend - the stocks I chose based in part on their analysis clearly outperformed my other stocks (26% to -3%).
