Great Service for Buy and Hold Investors

Motley Fool gets a bad rap because their marketing can be over the top, but if you can look past that and actually give the service a try, you'll find Stock Advisor is a great investing service for those who have a buy and hold strategy. This is not a newsletter for investors who are looking to move in and out of the market on the latest technical indicators or momentum moves. But the key to being successful with any Motley Fool service is to have a long term mindset, so if you are more of a day trader or short term trader, this won't be for you.

Stock Advisor gives you solid picks backed up by an excellent long term performance record. The community and the analyst team are very knowledgeable and the boards are excellent. I recommend Stock Advisor especially if you are a new investor specifically because of the great community.

They've got a 30 day trial as well, so it's a no lose situation if you want to try it for yourself.

Dont Be A Fool

Nothing to offer that u cant get from any other site for free. Picks are no good. Not much going on here..................Keep it moving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't do it....please don't.

After reading the comments, I decided to register to write a review for this one. I have been a member for a year, and they market their picks very well and convince you that their picks will certainly make you money. When I first purchased the package, Netflix (NFLX) has been a "buy now" and a "core stock" (price ranged from $220 - $300) along with amazon, apple and a few others. I was confident enough to invest in their picks and ended up loosing $27,000 for the year. Not the package that they make it seem. Please, stay away for your own good.

Waste of money

There are several major problems with Motley Fool Stock Advisor and their products in general. First, they advertise their performance against the S&P 500 Index which can be misleading because if the index is down big one year and their picks are down slightly less then they advertise that as a positive. Why not just state actual percentage gains/losses? Also they advocate a buy and hold strategy which can absolutely wipe investors out. They also advocate to be 100% invested and hold no cash or very little cash. They also want a person to hold lots of different stocks so that they are diversified. This newsletter is for those who know nothing about investing. You're better off staying away and finding something else.

Honest, fun and educational with a few great picks

They have had a few great picks over the years. Follow Dave instead of Tom because Dave is much better with his picks.

They have beaten the market handily over the years.

They believe in long-term investing. They look for most larger US companies that are growing and have lots more growth potential.

Good value

This is a good value newsletter for the longer term buy and hold individual as it's relatively cheap with a lot of good information. I have renewed this newsletter for over 6 years now and while I haven't taken many of the picks they have recommended, the ones I have taken have done very well. The main reason I don't follow them much any more is that I have become more of a trader and don't like to hold positions for a long period of time which is what this newsletter is all about. Also the volume of picks is so large now that you can't possibly have a position in them all so you are forced to just cherry pick some off the best buy now list as they don't close positions very often. But, they have had some huge winners over the years and post their performance record verses the S&P over that time period which they have beat handily. Good newsletter for the price.

Great for intermediate term investors

Tom and David have lots of great stock picks for long term investing. I did a 1-year subscription to their newsletter mailer it was pretty good information. They focus on company fundamentals and finding value stocks. They recommend having a portfolio of about 10 great stocks. I like having more control over my portfolio so I prefer trading over investing. It's just not my style.

Love the Caps

Love the Caps site, and am thinking of Global Gains, we’ll see if they put it on special! I enjoyed their throw in energy newsletter, some good pick sI have bought on the cheap now

seems to have lost it's cachet

used to be an avid follower of the educational and informations aspects.

now it seems most write ups and content are just recycles are padded with fillers.

good reference and resource for new investors, traders, in regards to how things work, taxes, and retirement planning.

would recommend to young uns.
