Performance has faded since 2009
I downloaded the Gorilla Trades spreadsheet of closed trades from 2003 until the end of 2011. The spreadsheet has about 12 incorrect cell entries in some 5000 round trip trades that I was able to correct by deduction. In addition, many of the individual stock gains/losses are in the wrong cells so I had to move those to the correct cells. There still seems to be about 100 gains/losses figures that are either missing or are still in the wrong cells. So, it has been a real chore to try to get accurate data from this spreadsheet. The biggest problem I had was trying to determine how many stocks were being held on any given day in order to calculate portfolio size and subsequently portfolio performance. Assuming an average portfolio size of 20 stocks with equal investments, I calculated the portfolio performance was up about 117% from March of 2003 until August of 2007. Then the portfolio went down about 22% until March of 2009. It has since appreciated about 13% until the end of 2011. During this whole time span it has appreciated 89% or 7.5% compounded annually ( commissions not included ). So, the portfolio went down about half as much as the S&P during the financial meltdown in 2008. But it has not appreciated nearly as much as the S&P since then. In summary, it is hard to tell what the GorillaTrade system will do in future markets since there is no clear pattern of performance. It is a proprietary technical system which is probably being tweek by the founder and thus giving the current lackluster performance. Their record keeping is poor and they have not responded to any of the errors that I have identified in their spreadsheet. Basically, I do not like systems that are unknown and subject to the whims of the owner and cannot be modeled for expected behavior.

I'm making money with it
I checked out the free trial and liked it enough to subscribe on a month to month basis. At first, I didn't add the stops, and lost money on a couple of picks. Then, one of the stocks that I would have sold, had I stopped, started to go up. It was then recommended again, and, after that, I took a much harder look at the service. I'm now long in several stocks recommended there that I wouldn't have found otherwise.

The service has "special situation picks" (aggressive picks) and "picklets" (stocks around or under $5) which it doesn't make stop recommendations on, and has an options ideas of the week, which I haven't tried.

In the last month, it started texting when to buy or sell a stock, using its methodology (recommended "trigger" and stop points).

It recommends a lot of Chinese stocks, which I won't buy, and covers stocks in all price points. My sweet spot on stocks is much lower than many of the stocks it covers, so not all of the picks are things I would consider.

The best thing about the service is that it recommends stocks that otherwise wouldn't be on my radar, and recommends exit strategies. It's making me a much more disciplined investor and, most importantly of all, it's making me money.

Good place for someone who isn't disciplined
Overall, 'Gorilla Trades has a pretty good track record... if you follow their buy / sell alerts and keep stops in place, over time you should do all right.

Some of the daily info is really good... I only did the free trial... I figured most the info. they sell I could have got somewhere else...

good for beginners.

worth the free trial for sure to see if it is for you !!!

No monkey business here
Though their gorilla theme is somewhat slapstick, I actually think they have a fairly good strategy for those that follow their picks. Their picks require certain trigger points at which time one buys when hit – they also give you the stop loss amounts to consider. All in all, I think the basics of their strategy are good for a first time trader who needs to learn discipline, especially with stop losses. They have been around for a good while now so I’d recommend taking a free trial to check it out.

Davy Jones!!! .......and trading.
I started their service via their trial period a little while ago and kept them for a few months before I stopped.

It is a silly name, which they of course mention on their site but once you step through that negative connotation, they have made some good predictions.

They have a good tutorial on how they pick their stocks on their site.

Using THEIR technical parameters they give trigger prices, with a confirmation price and stop loss. They also give 1st and 2nd target prices.

I stopped using their service because I wanted to be in control of MY OWN research to make money not on someone else's "unknown" system. I wanted to have my own working system.

Their service if good for other non-trading professionals that may not have the time to commit to researching and testing their own system.

One thing I didn't like was it took too many tries to unsubscribe from their advertising emails.

Wait, did I mention DAVY JONES!!!!! :)

Overall: Good but not for me.
