I like to check-out the MSN StockScouter page for stocks just to get a good feel for the company.

Great free screener

This is a great free tool. You can screen for stocks based on fundamental data and with a little programing skills can scan for stocks based on more advance technical criteria, like flag patterns.

Too much of everything

MSN is not my cop of tea for sure. Too much info and very disorganized.

Overrated

I think the rating system employed here is overrated – no pun intended! Fundamental research is very important, but I think there are a number of things that are not taken into consideration, particularly technical indicators. I think this is a one-dimensional rating strategy when they evaluate the expected risk/return!

Good performance

I've been checking out this site and their performance and it's not half bad. I never know who is better Zacks, Stock Scouter, Vectorvest, IBD, etc. I guess it depends on the time period. I was just looking through there and found a rec. for NVDA which just got hammered recently and thought that's an interesting pick. All these other services seem to just be picking high flying momentum plays like BIDU, NFLX, DECK, etc. which would have been great a year ago and are probably OK short term but could be dangerous long term.

Sorry Microsoft. Your products are horrible and are obviously marketed to the uninformed. If I come across more of your products, you will by default receive a low score from me. Avoid this, as there's so much more out there that's so much more useful.

The New changes are terrible

MSN's Deluxe stock screener used to be one of the more customizable ones out there, but this fall they changed the script and got rid of the custom fields that allowed you to screen for Piotroski and other methods that are hard to do in most screeners.

Just look at all the features they dropped!

Good job Microsoft, you just killed one of the only products of yours I liked for no reason.

Now it's average at best. To make matters worse the clunky layout of the website make it hard to find the parts you want.

The stock scouter is worth something I suppose. But I've never seen any empirical studies of it that suggest it actually beats the indexes.

You've got better places to find investment ideas.

Something happened!

I used to use this service fairly regularly however I recall something happening to the service (became a pay-only service, shut down ) that forced me away. Now they only offer a screener similar to many others on the web, there is no customization for example you can only go show me value stocks that are under 200mln in mktcap.
