GREAT product

One of the best stock scanners on the market, by far. Highly recommended- once you get some scripts that work well (I googled some) I have found this to be one of the few services I actually can say makes me money frequently.

Helps me every single day

This is a great site and well worth the cost spent on it. Makes stock screening super fast, allowing you to find the movers before they've moved. Highly recommended.

Excellent!

I love this screener. The subscription is low (8.98) and you get highly customizable input on real-time data. It's an excellent after-hours tool for finding and studying charts. I use this almost everyday and is simple to use and allows you to save your criteria (even the free account) for the next time you need to scan stocks. This is a MUST have for any serious trader.

Nothing like it, but I have few gripes that are new arrivals

Up until fairly recently, the FREE version of stockfetcher really rocked, and its still unbeatable for 10 clams a month, considering that you get custom scans, savable ones, great support in their filter exchanges by nerds who spend all day wirting their code, who can complain?

Well, I digress...

You see, when they debuted SF 2.0 Java launch they allowed via a quirk/bug the ability to see returns beyond the first 5 or so. Way beyond. Since that was intended for paid users, one cannot gripe. It was fun while it lasted. No more mooching for the peanut gallery.

But then they got the bright idea to limit their data on scans to DELAYED (by one full day) results. Originally you got up to the day results, but only the first 5 of maybe like 50 candidates would be viewable without a subscription.

Now it is ruined practically 100% unless you have a paid account.

They also do not allow certain types of data requests incorporated into scans if you lack a subscription. This was true from day one and not a deal breaker, but the delayed charts by a full day are not negotiable.

Still, I suggest a 10 per month account, you can probably get enough without the Advanced plan, and remove the dreaded delay and it would be worth every penny, as you can filter for penny stocks and emerging patterns like Supernovae, etc. if you have the right coding. Sometimes, even the delayed data works on pennies that have "false alarm" no movement days and are still in play, despite being long overdue when you finally see them!

Great value for end of day scans

I use Stock Fetcher often, it has the simplest interface and language I have found, and it cannot be beat for value. Cant say its all that entertaining, its a stock screener lol, and it doesnt educate you that much, you need to use it with the education you already have. Still, gets 5 stars because it is a powerful screener with easy to use everyday language that is really cheap all things considered.

I would pay an arm and a leg more if they would get realtime data, but after asking for years I gave up and started using Strategy Scanner in Etrade Pro (which is essentially the same thing as Trade Ideas).

Solid product for a dirt cheap price.

For $8.95/mo, you get some excellent scans. This can be an integral part of your nightly research if you know what you're doing. I use this to scan to find specific chartpatterns or volume triggers.

Great Deal

I signed up about a month ago. I know Tim Sykes and Reaper like the product so I thought it must have some value. You're able to create more rules and intermediate screens that sites like Clearstation will miss. Its like 10 bucks a month so I think its definitely worth utilizing if you are a serious trader.

A Tool I Cannot Do Without

Stockfetcher has been one of my best friends in trading for over a year now.

I have written and experimented with many Stockfetcher custom filters. I've narrowed mine down to a select 5-6 that I use consistently. The backtesting function is nice to help backtest your scans to see how the stock performed the next day or next week or next month, depending upon your time frame.

With my Stockfetcher filters, I'm able to pretty much come up with nearly all the potential plays that Tim Sykes and Reaper come up with, and sometimes some plays they don't come up with.

I pay $25 a quarter for it. For the things you can do with it, that's a steal.

Chat alerts, email alerts, scrolling HOD lists, and the like are nice to have in regards to trading, but they aren't absolutely must-haves for me.

However, Stockfetcher is definitely a must-have.

Best Value Screener

You will not be disappointed by purchasing a subscription to Stock Fetcher. I cannot imagine that you'll find another screener with this much in it for only $8.95 a month. I have used free stock screeners before and they are free, but very basic. With Stock Fetcher you get a ton of features and value for your subscription.

Features:

Custom Filters

We'll start with the most important and why most people sign up - customer filters!

For your standard subscription you will be able to save 100 different custom filters. I'd imagine this is plenty for most traders - I currently only have 15 and don't use them all every week. If you are a screening nut, you can upgrade to the advanced subscription (only $16.95/month) and have the ability to save 250 filters! That should be way more than enough for anyone.

Don't know how to write custom filters? Stock Fetcher has a very active forum with many other users contributing filters. You can either use the forum to learn and code the filters, or simply go into the "filter exchange" forum and pick up others and hack the code to fit your needs. If you can't figure it out, just make a post and ask for help - the other members are very helpful. The ideas of how to sort, what to look for on the charts, etc is endless. You'll see a lot of free filters that other members have created that you'll love.

Once you have your custom filters set up (you can also categorize them) it's a simply one click to run a scan. Once ran you can sort your scan by whatever criteria the filter has set up. It's very easy and easy to understand for even the newest trader. You can also download your scan into a CSV file if you're more comfortable with sorting in excel. Don't want to visit the site? Stock Fetcher has you covered as you can have your scans emailed to you daily.

Built In Filters:

Next we have Stock Fetchers built in filters. I have found these very useful too. These are filters that you can look through or save to your custom filters list for easy access.

Just a few of the filters provided:
Beta Above/Below
Bollinger Band - Contraction, Expansion, which band the stock is headed
Candlesticks - engulfing, harami, kicker
MACD Crosses
Price Channels
Price Action - 4 Day Consecutive Gain, Percent Drops/Gains, 52 Week High/Low
RSI
Volume Percent Gainers

... You get the idea! Those are just what Stock Fetcher gives you to get started. As I said above, the custom filters are the real gold in Stock Fetcher. This is such a powerful tool that has you covered no matter what you are looking for in a stock.

Chart View:

Another useful feature in stock fetcher for the pure chartist - you can use "chart view" which is similar to ClearStation.com's "graph in bulk" feature. This feature simply takes all the symbols in your scan and charts them so you can visually see what is going on.

Watch lists

I have not used this much, but it looks really cool. You have your regular watch list where you can simply store stocks you're interested in possibly playing. They also have an advanced watch list where you can add your saved stocks from your scans to a list for alerts.

Back testing

Another feature I haven't used much as I am using tried and tested custom filters. However, this looks very useful also from playing around with it a few times. You can create a filter and test it or test a filter you have picked up from someone else. Like any other back testing software you give it variable in what you are trying to do and it runs it against the stocks it is picking up and your trading strategy.

I should also mention that Stock Fetcher is upgrading their website. They will soon be launching a 2.0 website. They have a beta version you can use as a member. It makes things quicker and gives you everything you need on one page instead of clicking around like a regular website.

Cons

The only complaint I have is the downloading of symbols. With the standard account you can only download 200 symbols and when you download the file the sorting you did does not save. So if your scan retrieved 300 stocks and you want to sort by average day range of 30, you may not necessarily get all those stocks or in order. Stock Fetcher will give you the first 200 stocks, not necessarily the ones with the highest ADR30. The way I get around this is to sort online and just type out the symbols into a notepad before putting them into my software watch list. This is a little bit of a hassle, but not enough to make me upgrade to the advanced subscription yet. You can solve this by upgrading to the advanced account which allows you to download 1000 symbols which in most cases is plenty.

Summary

Overall if you don't already have a screener, don't want to spend too much or are new, there is no reason not to spend the $8.95 for a standard account. Everyone can afford it and the value is insane.

Limited Backtesting

The standard version of stockfetcher is decent. It does everything the free version does for you, but you can save up to 15 backtests, and backtest up to 4 months of data. The filters you can create are limited by your imagination, and you can test them all. The only drawback to stockfetcher, is that you can't really test intraday data / patterns.

good stock screener website for a cheap price

Being a member of this site, it gives you a great amount of screening options to find trading setups. It also allows you to create your own custom screens/filters.The best part is, it only costs 8.95 a month, and offers a great screener service for the price. A very good value imho.

Detailed and powerful scanner

You can create highly customized scans very precisely by writing your own filters, pretty much in plain English. It is sometimes hard to come up with the right syntax, but many examples are provided to help, and customer support provided me the correct syntax for one filter I had tried various incorrect ways to express. You can incorporate a variety of studies and set criteria over various time frames. If they keep working on accepting more different ways to say what you want the filter to do, they will get even better. Very good tool for advanced scanning.
