Best Value Screener
You will not be disappointed by purchasing a subscription to Stock Fetcher. I cannot imagine that you'll find another screener with this much in it for only $8.95 a month. I have used free stock screeners before and they are free, but very basic. With Stock Fetcher you get a ton of features and value for your subscription.
Features:Custom FiltersWe'll start with the most important and why most people sign up - customer filters!
For your standard subscription you will be able to save 100 different custom filters. I'd imagine this is plenty for most traders - I currently only have 15 and don't use them all every week. If you are a screening nut, you can upgrade to the advanced subscription (only $16.95/month) and have the ability to save 250 filters! That should be way more than enough for anyone.
Don't know how to write custom filters? Stock Fetcher has a very active forum with many other users contributing filters. You can either use the forum to learn and code the filters, or simply go into the "filter exchange" forum and pick up others and hack the code to fit your needs. If you can't figure it out, just make a post and ask for help - the other members are very helpful. The ideas of how to sort, what to look for on the charts, etc is endless. You'll see a lot of free filters that other members have created that you'll love.
Once you have your custom filters set up (you can also categorize them) it's a simply one click to run a scan. Once ran you can sort your scan by whatever criteria the filter has set up. It's very easy and easy to understand for even the newest trader. You can also download your scan into a CSV file if you're more comfortable with sorting in excel. Don't want to visit the site? Stock Fetcher has you covered as you can have your scans emailed to you daily.
Built In Filters:Next we have Stock Fetchers built in filters. I have found these very useful too. These are filters that you can look through or save to your custom filters list for easy access.
Just a few of the filters provided:Beta Above/Below
Bollinger Band - Contraction, Expansion, which band the stock is headed
Candlesticks - engulfing, harami, kicker
MACD Crosses
Price Channels
Price Action - 4 Day Consecutive Gain, Percent Drops/Gains, 52 Week High/Low
RSI
Volume Percent Gainers
... You get the idea! Those are just what Stock Fetcher gives you to get started. As I said above, the custom filters are the real gold in Stock Fetcher. This is such a powerful tool that has you covered no matter what you are looking for in a stock.
Chart View:Another useful feature in stock fetcher for the pure chartist - you can use "chart view" which is similar to ClearStation.com's "graph in bulk" feature. This feature simply takes all the symbols in your scan and charts them so you can visually see what is going on.
Watch listsI have not used this much, but it looks really cool. You have your regular watch list where you can simply store stocks you're interested in possibly playing. They also have an advanced watch list where you can add your saved stocks from your scans to a list for alerts.
Back testingAnother feature I haven't used much as I am using tried and tested custom filters. However, this looks very useful also from playing around with it a few times. You can create a filter and test it or test a filter you have picked up from someone else. Like any other back testing software you give it variable in what you are trying to do and it runs it against the stocks it is picking up and your trading strategy.
I should also mention that Stock Fetcher is upgrading their website. They will soon be launching a 2.0 website. They have a beta version you can use as a member. It makes things quicker and gives you everything you need on one page instead of clicking around like a regular website.
ConsThe only complaint I have is the downloading of symbols. With the standard account you can only download 200 symbols and when you download the file the sorting you did does not save. So if your scan retrieved 300 stocks and you want to sort by average day range of 30, you may not necessarily get all those stocks or in order. Stock Fetcher will give you the first 200 stocks, not necessarily the ones with the highest ADR30. The way I get around this is to sort online and just type out the symbols into a notepad before putting them into my software watch list. This is a little bit of a hassle, but not enough to make me upgrade to the advanced subscription yet. You can solve this by upgrading to the advanced account which allows you to download 1000 symbols which in most cases is plenty.
SummaryOverall if you don't already have a screener, don't want to spend too much or are new, there is no reason not to spend the $8.95 for a standard account. Everyone can afford it and the value is insane.
